Job Description

The Program & Volunteer Coordinator supports the programs that are offered by Durham Center for Senior Life
and promotes health, independence, and wellbeing of older adults through education, recreation, nutrition, and
social services. The Program & Volunteer Coordinator also oversees volunteer activities and initiatives based on
the various Center needs.

Responsibilities include:
• Plan, coordinate, schedule, and oversee programs or special events for older adults at the Main Center.
• Promote events, activities and services thoroughly utilizing monthly calendars, bulletin boards, flyers,
agency-wide communications, outreach and more, so that older adults are aware of all programs offered.
• Coordinate with external partners, agency vendors and volunteers to facilitate program delivery.
• Ensure programs and events are well organized, engaging and meet the Center’s objectives.
• Evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.
• Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers to support programs and services.
• Assign tasks and responsibilities to volunteers and ensure they are aligned with Center goals.
• Create opportunities for volunteer recognition and consistently demonstrate appreciation for volunteer
contributions to the Center.
• May assist Director of Programs with scheduling or recordkeeping.
• Respond to inquiries from participants, volunteers, and community stakeholders in a timely and
professional manner.
• Prepare general reports, presentations or other documents as needed.
• Collaborate with staff members and engage in positive teamwork to achieve team & organizational goals.
• Remain informed of trends, best practices and resources related to older adults and volunteerism through
research, professional development, and networking opportunities.
• Identify opportunities for program and volunteering growth, innovation, and improvement.

 

Organizational Relationship:
The Program & Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Senior Center Director of Programs.

Supervises:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities but does require overseeing and supporting volunteers and their
Center related activities.

Employment Qualifications:
The Program & Volunteer Coordinator must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Must have excellent verbal
and written communication. Must have proven ability to create programs and plan events. Ability to interact with
individuals from a variety of disciplines and diverse cultures and backgrounds. A demonstrated passion for
working with and addressing the needs of older adults. Ability to demonstrate maturity, good judgment, flexibility,
and creativity. Must be organized and have ability to multi-task and effectively delegate tasks. Must have excellent
time management skills. Must have basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word,
Excel, and Outlook. Ability to lift 25lbs. Valid North Carolina driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle
is preferred.


Salary Hiring Range:
• $40,000 – 42,500.00 annually.

Schedule:

The Durham Center for Senior Life Finance Specialist keeps financial records updated,
prepares financial reports, and reconciles credit cards and runs accounting software
programs to process business transactions, such as accounts payable and receivables,
disbursements, expenses vouchers and receipts.
Responsibilities shall include:
• Responsible for the administration and reconciliation of payments.
• Enters and pays bills from QuickBooks, creating accounts payable invoices, and
entering deposits received.
• Processes incoming checks and remittances for claims, A/P, and capitation.
• Prepares accounts receivable invoicing and reconcile payments as assigned.
• Prepares assigned reconciliations and analysis of general ledger accounts.
• Prepares POS Pay files.
• Serves as an additional resource for the finance department.
• Assists with administration disbursements.
• Processes journal entries and keeps schedule on balances.
• Performs other related accounting, clerical and administrative tasks as required or
assigned.
• Assists with account reconciliations provided through fundraising systems.
• Prepares 1099s annually.
• Performs other duties, as assigned.
Organizational Relationship:
The Finance Specialist reports to the Finance Director.
Supervises:
This position does not have any staff supervisory responsibilities but does supervise
interns.
Employment Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
One year of accounts payable experience is required.
QuickBooks experience is preferred.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and ability to work with others as part
of a team.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both oral and written.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
This is a Non-exempt Part-time position.
Salary Hiring Range:
• $18 hr. – $22 hr.

The CNA performs duties as necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the Adult Day Health Program, works cooperatively with the Registered Nurse and program staff to maintain excellent standards of client care and thorough assigned records. The CNA 1- works closely with the RN, LPN, MSW, and the Director in carrying out assigned duties. This position reports directly to the RN and the Director of Adult Day Health.

 

Job Summary:

The PCA performs duties as necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the Adult Day Health Program, works cooperatively with the Registered Nurse and program staff to maintain excellent standards of client care and thorough assigned records. The PCA works closely with the RN, LPN, MSW, and the Director in carrying out assigned duties. This position reports directly to the RN and the Director of Adult Day Health.

RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE:

  • Maintains confidentiality of participant/staff health and related information.
  • Assists with toileting and personal care of clients
  • Leads recreational programs and Calendar of Activities programs as assigned
  • Assists with food service, including feeding, if necessary
  • Monitors participants for safety, status changes, debilitation needs and recommends/intervenes as appropriate
  • Files appropriate papers into participant folders
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned by the RN and/or Director

Job description
The Porter performs duties as necessary for the cleanliness and safety standards
of the Durham Center for Senior Life and works cooperatively with the Facilities
staff to maintain excellent standards of facility care. This position reports directly
to the Facilities Operations Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE:
• Clean and sanitize restrooms daily.
• Collect trash and debris from building grounds.
• Vacuum carpets daily.
• Bag and dispose of trash into receptacle daily.
• Execute light and deep cleaning projects quickly and efficiently.
• Help maintain accurate inventory of cleaning and janitorial products.
• Maintain courteous communication with diverse Staff and Participant
groups.
• Attend mandatory staff training and meetings.
• Other related housekeeping duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 18 years of age.
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
(6) Months Custodial Experience preferred.
Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Positive and team focused attitude.
Knowledge of disinfectants, equipment and materials used in custodial work
preferred.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to respond courteously to inquiries or complaints from staff and Center
Participants.
Ability to learn and utilize safe work practices.
Ability to work reliably and effectively without supervision.
