Seanyea is a native of Durham, NC, and has worked in the nonprofit sector for 20+ years. She holds a Master’s in Administration of Human Services from Wilmington University and a Bachelors of Social Work from Shaw University, as well as a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University. She is currently completing her dissertation for a Doctorate in Human and Social Services.
Her favorite color is purple; she enjoys cooking; and her pride and joy are her six children and husband, Jamal.
Shaun has been part of the Durham community for over 30 years. He spent his formative years between Bahama and Durham’s West End. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Organizational Development from the University of Mount Olive. For over twenty years, he has provided Human Resources and Operations support for Old Navy and Publix Super Markets in North Carolina. Shaun enjoys time with his wife and two young kids, visiting museums, and learning to play the guitar.
Debbie has spent 10 years in the nonprofit sector of Finance and 20+ years in the private sector. She holds a BS in Accounting from Old Dominion University. She loves spending time with family, friends, and her two dogs.
Gillian has spent 15+ years in the nonprofit sector and Development in particular. She holds a BA from Florida State University, and she is currently obtaining a Masters in Public Administration at UNCG. She joined the DCSL team in 2020 and currently oversees fundraising and donor engagement opportunities for the Center. She enjoys time with family, bird-watching, traveling, and all trivia games.
Sharon is a native of Raleigh, NC. She is a graduate of American Public University Systems with a Bachelors Degree in Public Health Administration and currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration. Sharon has 12 years of experience as a Program Director working with the Senior and IDD population and a total of 20+ years in the Health & Human Services field.
Sharon enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She has a son name Trey who she truly adores, and her favorite food is Sushi.
Melissa Black has a Master’s degree from UNC in Public Health and has served the aging community for many years throughout her career. Melissa is no stranger to the Durham Center as she has worked with directly with DCSL partners in her work as an Aging and Disabilities professional. Melissa enjoys time with her husband, two boys, and you can find her on a baseball field during the spring and summer.
Thomas has served as the Facilities Operations Manager at the Durham Center for Senior Life since 2018. As Facilities Operations Manager, he provides direct management and supervision to personnel involved in the building operations of maintenance and service. Thomas serves as point-person for all day-to-day office and building operations responsibilities, procedures, and IT support.
Thomas attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. He is a new author and has published and released his first book, “Pebbles on The Journey!” He enjoys motivational speaking, singing, music and event planning.
Niya is a native of Durham, NC and received her Bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health in 2019. She recently completed an internship with the Durham County Health Department and began working as a Support Service Coordinator for DCSL in July of 2020. She is excited by the opportunity serve the Seniors of the Durham community. Niya played soccer in school and was nick named “Super Foot” for scoring goals from half field. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and shopping.
Barbara Jean Algood, graduated from Durham Business College with a degree in Secretarial Science. She spent (37) years at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company in Customer Service and has been with DCSL 10 plus years as the Main Receptionist. Barbara favorite colors are white and orange.
Danny holds a Masters in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin and is a licensed occupational therapist. He has more than ten years of experience working with families and children with special needs. His passion for partnering with people to create enriching, health-promoting experiences led him to DCSL. He is a Certified Instructor of Tai Chi for Arthritis and Tai for Falls Prevention and Arthritis. Danny is grateful that he gets to benefit from the wisdom and friendship of DCSL members on a daily basis. In his free time, Danny enjoys cooking, making music and seeking out new ice cream shops with his family.
Katherine was born in New Jersey and moved to Clayton, North Carolina, where she has resided for the past 15+ years. She is currently attending Wake Technical Community College for her Accounting and Finance degree. Katherine loves anything that has to do with being outdoors, including bicycling, trail walks, and basketball. She has two dogs, Rue and Bruno, as well as a bearded dragon by the name of Drakeo.
Noah has a B.S. in Recreation Management with a focus on Outdoor Recreation from Lock Haven University. Noah most recently worked implementing wellness programs with Alder Health Services in Harrisburg, PA and has extensive experience running outdoor youth empowerment programs. He moved to Chapel Hill NC in the past year and enjoys canoeing with his dogs and family.
Hello! My name is Phyllis Massenburg, and I am the Technology Connections Coordinator at DCSL. After IT Certification from Durham Technical Institute, including HTML and CSS Coding, I am currently obtaining a Master’s at the North Carolina Central University School of Education Graduate E-Learning Program. The E-Learning Instructor Certification prepares professionals to teach interactively, design content, and maintain learning management systems for corporate training and distance learning.

Hi! My name is Jessica and I’m the Marketing and Communications Specialist here at DCSL. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from NC State University and currently pursuing a Masters of Arts degree in Digital Marketing at Wake Forest University. A few of my favorite things, I enjoy traveling, eating, dancing, and learning new languages such as Arabic and French. I enjoy learning from others, serving my community, and helping where I can.
My name is Olivia Daniel and I am Creedmoor, NC native and a recent graduate of North Carolina Central University. In 2021, I finished my collegiate softball career and graduated with my BA in Political Science. Eagle Pride! My passion is service, specifically serving the community of Durham that has provided me so many fulfilling opportunities! I am so excited to bring my passion to the Durham Center for Senior Living!
Lety Bridges is a trained Sociologist with extensive experience in developing and facilitating bi-lingual (Spanish-English) community-based programs, corporate language learning labs & cross-cultural communication trainings for private and public entities internationally.
She is a highly sought-after Spanish conference speaker and business consultant specializing in the development of sustainable business models that meet the needs of the Latino population.
Lety has over twenty years of providing a variety of bilingual mental and behavioral health services; family intervention programs, individual & group counseling, and therapeutic support for youth and adults locally and abroad.
She is passionate, compassionate, energetic, and dedicated to serving others.
Lety graduated from NC State University in Raleigh, NC obtaining a BA in Sociology & a Spanish degree from The Center for Bilingual & Multicultural Studies in Cuernavaca, Mexico. She has been awarded for developing & leading various community-based projects in Pariso, Dominican Republic.

Jamie is from Greensboro, NC, and has devoted her career to working with and advocating for seniors and adults with disabilities. She holds a Master’s degree in Gerontology, a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Bachelors of Social Work from East Carolina University. Her hobbies include writing, photography, and cooking. She also enjoys road trips and exploring our beautiful state.
I’m a Bull City native. I graduated from the PN program at EPCI University in 2018. I have over 15 years of experience working with seniors. In my free time I enjoy writing poetry and traveling with my family.
Tiara Hargrove, MHA-is a native of North Carolina. She is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University’s Master of Healthcare Administration program. Tiara joined DCSL in 2018 as the Program Assistant and later transitioned into her current role. Tiara oversees the day-to-day operations at the Adult Day Health Center. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones, visual and performing arts, and traveling.
NaQuana Johnson is a certified Activity Coordinator for Long Term Care, and she is a native of North Carolina. She is a 2018 graduate of Capella University’s Master of Science in Human Services with a specialization in Social and Community services. NaQuana also holds a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation that she obtained at Winston Salem State University in 2015. While attending Capella University, NaQuana obtained a graduate certificate in contemporary mental health theory. NaQuana joined DCSL as a program assistant in June 2020 and since then has helped create and facilitate various programs in several departments within DCSL. NaQuana has a passion and heart for serving others. In her spare time, “Quana” enjoys singing, shopping, traveling and spending time with her family but especially her son, Mikael.
Willie-Mae has worked in nursing for 28 years, and her specialty areas are home health care and dementia care. Willie-Mae’s favorite color is white, and she enjoys singing.
Melissa has been a Certified Nursing Assistant for 27 years, and her specialty areas are geriatrics, dementia, hospice care, and home health. Melissa graduated from Gericare Home Healthcare in 1995. Her favorite colors are pink and black.
Sheri has worked in nursing for two years, and she graduated from Gericare Home Healthcare. She has had her CNA license for one year. Sheri’s favorite color is black, and she enjoys networking.
