Thomas has served as the Facilities Operations Manager at the Durham Center for Senior Life since 2018. As Facilities Operations Manager, he provides direct management and supervision to personnel involved in the building operations of maintenance and service. Thomas serves as point-person for all day-to-day office and building operations responsibilities, procedures, and IT support.
Thomas attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. He is a new author and has published and released his first book, “Pebbles on The Journey!” He enjoys motivational speaking, singing, music and event planning.
Niya is a native of Durham, NC and received her Bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health in 2019. She recently completed an internship with the Durham County Health Department and began working as a Support Service Coordinator for DCSL in July of 2020. She is excited by the opportunity serve the Seniors of the Durham community. Niya played soccer in school and was nick named “Super Foot” for scoring goals from half field. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and shopping.
Barbara Jean Algood, graduated from Durham Business College with a degree in Secretarial Science. She spent (37) years at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company in Customer Service and has been with DCSL 10 plus years as the Main Receptionist. Barbara favorite colors are white and orange.
Noah has a B.S. in Recreation Management with a focus on Outdoor Recreation from Lock Haven University. Noah most recently worked implementing wellness programs with Alder Health Services in Harrisburg, PA and has extensive experience running outdoor youth empowerment programs. He moved to Chapel Hill NC in the past year and enjoys canoeing with his dogs and family.
Hello! My name is Phyllis Massenburg, and I am the Technology Connections Coordinator at DCSL. After IT Certification from Durham Technical Institute, including HTML and CSS Coding, I am currently obtaining a Master’s at the North Carolina Central University School of Education Graduate E-Learning Program. The E-Learning Instructor Certification prepares professionals to teach interactively, design content, and maintain learning management systems for corporate training and distance learning.
My longevity and experiences allow me to translate the “old school” habits into “new world” technology. I now specialize in Information Technology after a successful entrepreneurial journey as the founder of a cosmetology company. www.phyllisatperfection.com/home
I came to DCSL as a volunteer and served as a Technology Trainer licensed by Senior Planet. With a unique perspective, I have committed to helping seniors use technology to improve their lives!
John Williams is the Older Adult Outreach Coordinator. John comes to DCSL with 15+ years of working and making connections with local organizations in the Triangle. John has a solid community-relationship-building background, working at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and with his church. John holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Carolina Central University.
Fun facts: John is newly married and has a two-year-old son. He also has a background in culinary, so he enjoys cooking and entertaining friends. When time permits, John enjoys fishing in the ocean.
Melissa has been a Certified Nursing Assistant for 27 years, and her specialty areas are geriatrics, dementia, hospice care, and home health. Melissa graduated from Gericare Home Healthcare in 1995. Her favorite colors are pink and black.
Sheri has worked in nursing for two years, and she graduated from Gericare Home Healthcare. She has had her CNA license for one year. Sheri’s favorite color is black, and she enjoys networking.
